Zuntag in Zottegem

Not sure if that really means Sunday - I am picking up a little Flemish here and there. Went out cycling for a couple hours this p.m. - most of the local lanes and roads I have covered now. Was on the "monster" as I was not taking a map and figured I might hit cobbles and hills - yes I did, including a named hill " "Berendries" with max slope of 12.3 % and 2/3 cobbles for its near 1 km length. http://www.climbbybike.com/nl/beklimming.asp?qryMountainID=139 It was not bad with that bike. Still not sure that I will get to Koppenberg or De Muur (the wall) which get to 19% + grades with rougher surfaces. If I could take the road bike to there and switch to mountain bike.....

The road bike just cannot handle those surfaces! There was a youth road bike race that preceded me up the hill - much slimmer, faster, younger, better equipped.

I stopped at a restaurant "Bostmolen" on the Zwalm - a small stream that has had a mill (molen) recorded there since 1571. The stream and building remain but the mill lost to diesel some time last century. They had their own "Bost bier" that was most satisfying. Probably got in 40 km with lots of photo stops and the like and returned to Z to get into the higher class grocery that is open a few hours on Sunday (regular is closed.)

Then sat at the Old Zottegem cafe on the central plaza, drank beer, watched people, called Karen and "read" a local paper. And then dinner and a couple hours of research and writing. Good day.
